Tour de Yorkshire

Recently announced as British Cycling's preferred motorhome supplier, Swift Go loves everything to do with cycling and we're delighted that the Tour De Yorkshire is back again for a 5th year in 2019.

Taking place between 2 - 5 May, the UK's premiere road cycling event passes through some of Yorkshire's most challenging yet beautiful cycling routes.

With stage 1 travelling through Selby, Pocklington (near Stamford Bridge), Beverley, Howden and Doncaster, there's plenty of opportunity for competitors and spectators alike to sample everything that the Yorkshire Wolds has to offer.

Stage 2 takes in other beautiful Yorkshire towns and cities such as the old mining town of Castleford (home of rugby champions Castleford Tigers) and beautiful Harrogate, with its stunning Georgian townhouses that were built off the back of the city's wealth, acquired during its heyday as a spa-town (its delicious spring water is still bottled today).

Stage 3 takes in Yorkshire's beautiful east coast with the cycle route passing through Bridlington, Scarborough and wonderful Whitby (location of Bram Stoker's infamous 'Dracula', and the annual Steam Punk weekend).

Stage 4 of the Tour de Yorkshire heads to the west of the county, with a route that passes over the wild and rugged Ilkley Moor and up to the world famous Yorkshire Dales, home to the Buttertubs Pass, the Ribblehead Viaduct (used as a filming location for Harry Potter), and the Wensleydale Creamery, where you can stop to buy some of the worlds' finest cheeses.

Silverstone

The home of British motorsport, Silverstone’s calendar offers something for all enthusiasts. A far cry from its early days as a WWII airfield marked out via straw bales and ropes, the circuit today is one of the most advanced in the world, with the Silverstone British GP the best-attended event in the sport.

Held each year at the historic venue, the British Grand Prix sees sporting rivalries play out over three days. Here spectators can watch every manoeuvre, hear the zip of tyres and feel the excitement buzzing in the air, as they marvel at the engineering, technology and innovation behind the cars.

Likewise, the MotoGP brings enormous crowds to Silverstone, eager to see the premier class of motorcycle racing do battle for the championship.

But catching a race at Silverstone is about so much more than the actual contests – it’s about soaking up the atmosphere, meeting likeminded people and making lifelong memories. The best way to experience this is by staying over at the campsite, erected for both the F1 Grand Prix and MotoGP, that’s just 150m from the track. You’ll find a festival feel, with major artists playing gigs, family entertainment keeping everyone happy and fairground attractions bringing the fun, as well as a wide range of hospitality.

And now there’s no need to sacrifice comfort to stay on site, thanks to motorhome hire from Swift Go. With one of our luxury leisure vehicles, you can rely on amenities such as a warm bed, bathroom and fully fitted kitchen, keeping your trip easy and relaxing.

The Open Golf Championship

Due to be held in July 2019 at the Royal Portrush Golf Course and in 2020 at Royal St George’s, Kent, The Open is the oldest of the sport’s major professional championships. Drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators, it’s an ideal opportunity to watch your favourite golfers tee it up and battle for the Claret Jug trophy.

The Open moves to a different UK venue each year, allowing attendees to discover new links and areas of the British Isles. In the past, this has also meant dashing to book up hotels that are often far removed from the course, or cramming into a tent and sharing facilities. But now there’s luxury motorhome hire from Swift Go, offering straightforward booking and a welcoming base where you can kick back and reflect on the day’s results, embracing the spirit of the campsite without any of the inconvenience. And after the Championship is over, make the most of your trip by exploring the local region.
